January 2000: Support funding (PromoScience program) awarded by Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) of Canada to Dr. Cheryl Bartlett (via PA Eleanor Bernard) for Integrative Science youth outreach project entitled “Nature's Mathematics”.
January 2000: Research investment funding awarded by Sable Offshore Energy, Inc. to Dr. Cheryl Bartlett for Integrative Science research and development project entitled “Integrative Science curriculum development”.
Spring 2000: Research funding (Phase 1 only) awarded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) of Canada to Dr. Cheryl Bartlett (via PA Eleanor Bernard) for Integrative Science research project within CURA (community-university research alliance) program entitled “Bringing Knowledges Together”.
Spring – Summer 2000: Two Mi’kmaw Integrative Science undergraduate students are offered summer research assistantships with Dr. Cheryl Bartlett.
September 2000: New cohort of Mi’kmaw students (N=22) begin academic work in first-year courses of Integrative Science, as part of the Mi’kmaw Science Advantage Program (MSAP) administered by the Mi’kmaw College Institute at Cape Breton University. 5 February 2001: Approval by the Maritime Provinces Higher Education Commission of the Integrative Science program as a concentration within Cape Breton University’s BScCS.
Spring – Summer 2001: Ten Mi’kmaw Integrative Science undergraduate students are offered summer research assistantships with Dr. Cheryl Bartlett; five of these students are recipients of a USRA (Undergraduate Summer Research Award) from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) of Canada.
September 2001. New cohort of Mi’kmaw students (N=20) begin academic work in first-year courses of Integrative Science, as part of the Mi’kmaw Science Advantage Program (MSAP) administered by the Mi’kmaw College Institute at Cape Breton University. September 2002. New cohort of students (N=5) begin academic work in first-year courses of Integrative Science at Cape Breton University.
Fall 2002: Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Integrative Science awarded by the Canada Research Chairs program of the Government of Canada to Dr. Cheryl Bartlett.
Fall 2002: Research infrastructure award by the Canada Found-ation for Innovation (CFI) to Dr. Cheryl Bartlett for infrastructure development entitled “Integrative Science Research Commons”.
Fall 2002: Research infrastructure award by Nova Scotia Research and Innovation Trust Fund (NSRIT) to Dr. Cheryl Bartlett for infrastructure development entitled “Integrative Science Research Commons”.
Spring 2003: First Mi’kmaw students (N=2) graduate from Cape Breton University’s Integrative Science academic program within the four year BScCS degree.

January 2004: Research funding awarded by the Nova Scotia Health Research Foundation (Halifax, NS) to Dr. Cheryl Bartlett for Integrative Science research project entitled “Puppetry, Mental Health Promotion, Children, and the Forests”.
Spring 2004: Research funding awarded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) of Canada to Dr. Cheryl Bartlett for Integrative Science research project entitled “Pattern recognition: enriching the ‘common ground’ of bringing Aboriginal and Western scientific knowledges together”.
Spring 2004: Research funding awarded by the IWK Health Centre Foundation to Dr. Cheryl Bartlett for Integrative Science research project entitled “Integrative Health and Healing - focus on primary school age Mi’kmaw children”.
Spring 2004: One Mi’kmaw student graduates from Cape Breton University’s BSc – Nursing; she had started her post-secondary science by taking first-year Integrative Science courses within the Mi’kmaw Science Advantage Program.
Spring – Summer 2004: Seven Mi’kmaw Integrative Science undergraduate students are offered summer research assistantships with Dr. Cheryl Bartlett; three of these students are recipients of a USRA (Undergraduate Summer Research Award) from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) of Canada.
September 2004: New cohort of Mi’kmaw students (N=14) begin academic work in first-year courses of Integrative Science, as part of the Mi’kmaw Science Advantage Program (MSAP) administered by the Mi’kmaw College Institute at Cape Breton University. Read the 2004-2005 course composition for MSAP.
January 2005: Support funding awarded by the Mounted Police Foundation (now called The RCMP Foundation) to Dr. Cheryl Bartlett for Integrative Science youth outreach project “Toqikutimk / Together we are growing: our children, our sunflowers”.
Spring 2005: Two Mi’kmaw students graduate from Cape Breton University’s Integrative Science academic program within the four year BScCS degree.
Spring – Summer 2005: Two Mi’kmaw Integrative Science undergraduate students are offered summer research assistantships with Dr. Cheryl Bartlett; one of these students is a recipient of a USRA (Undergraduate Summer Research Award) from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) of Canada.
Summer 2005: Status Report on Integrative Science submitted by Cape Breton University to the Maritime Provinces Higher Education Commission (MPHEC), thereby fulfilling a condition imposed on Cape Breton University by MPHEC upon approving the program proposal in February 2001.
September 2005: New cohort of Mi’kmaw students (N=9) begin academic work in first-year courses of Integrative Science at Cape Breton University.
January 2006: Support funding awarded by the Mounted Police Foundation (now called The RCMP Foundation) to Dr. Cheryl Bartlett for Integrative Science promotional video entitled “Two-Eyed Seeing”.
Spring 2006: Three Mi’kmaw students graduate from Cape Breton University’s Integrative Science academic program within the four year BScCS degree. Also, five other Mi’kmaw students graduate from Cape Breton University science programs, including the BSc – Biology, BSc – Nursing, BSc – Psychology, and BTech – Environmental Studies; all had started their post-secondary science by taking first-year Integrative Science courses.
Spring – Summer 2006: Three Mi’kmaw Integrative Science undergraduate students are offered summer research assistantships with Dr. Cheryl Bartlett; one of these students is a recipient of a USRA (Undergraduate Summer Research Award) from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) of Canada.
September 2006: New cohort of Mi’kmaw students (N=5) begin academic work in first-year MSIT courses in Integrative Science at Cape Breton University.
Fall 2006: The Institute for Integrative Science & Health is created at Cape Breton University.
Spring 2007: Discretionary support funding awarded by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) of Canada to Dr. Cheryl Bartlett for Integrative Science educational outreach project entitled “Aboriginal science education: creating 'Two-Eyed Seeing' science modules for science nests and summer camps”.
Spring 2007: Research funding awarded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research – Institute of Aboriginal Peoples’ Health (CIHR – IAPH) to Dr. Fred Wien of Dalhousie University (with Dr. Cheryl Bartlett as one of four Co-Applicants) for an ACADRE (Aboriginal Capacity and Developmental Research Environments) known as AAHRP (Atlantic Aboriginal Health Research Program) with project title of “Building the Foundation for Aboriginal Health Research in Atlantic Canada” to be located at Dalhousie University in Halifax, NS.
Spring 2007: One Mi’kmaw student graduates from Cape Breton University’s Integrative Science academic program within the four year BScCS degree. Also, one other Mi’kmaw student graduates from Cape Breton University’s BSc – Nursing; she had started her post-secondary science by taking first-year Integrative Science courses.
Spring – Summer 2007: Two Mi’kmaw Integrative Science undergraduate students are offered summer research assistantships with Dr. Cheryl Bartlett.
September 2007: Four Mi’kmaw and other students begin academic work in first-year MSIT courses at Cape Breton University.
Spring 2008: One Mi’kmaw student graduates from Cape Breton University’s Integrative Science academic program within the four year BScCS degree. Also, four other Mi’kmaw student graduate from Cape Breton University science programs, including the BSc – Biology, BSc – Nursing, and B Tech Public Health; all had started their post-secondary science by taking first-year Integrative Science courses.
September 2008: Two Mi’kmaw students begin academic work in first-year MSIT courses at Cape Breton University. In addition, later in Fall 2008, a cohort of Mi'kmaw students (N=29) take some MSIT courses as part of an in-community, access delivery of first-year courses for the Bachelor of Arts program by Cape Breton University for Sipekni’katik (Indian Brook) First Nation.
January 2009: Research funding awarded by the Atlantic Aboriginal Health Research Program (AAHRP) within the NEAHR (Networks of Environments of Aboriginal Health Research) program of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research – Institute of Aboriginal Peoples’ Health (CIHR-IAPH) to Dr. Cheryl Bartlett for Integrative Science research project entitled “Rekindling Mi’kmaw Stories for Modern Childraising Practices”.
Spring 2009: Research funding (Phase 1 only) awarded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) of Canada to Dr. Cheryl Bartlett for Integrative Science research project within CURA (community-university research alliance) program entitled “Softening Our Ecological Footprints: Mi’kmaw Elders Stories and Environmental Sustainability”.
Spring 2009: One Mi’kmaw student graduates from Cape Breton University’s Integrative Science academic program within the four year BScCS degree.
Fall 2009: Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Integrative Science award renewed by the Canada Research Chairs program of the Government of Canada for Dr. Cheryl Bartlett.
Fall 2009: Research infrastructure award by the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) to Dr. Cheryl Bartlett for infrastructure development entitled “Mobile Science Laboratory - Wtisi” (award declined in Spring 2010).
Fall 2009: A cohort of Mi’kmaw students take some first-year MSIT courses as part of an in-community, access delivery of first-year courses for the Bachelor of Arts program by Cape Breton University for We’koqma’q (Waycobah) First Nation.
Fall 2009: Cape Breton University’s Integrative Science academic program receives national recognition from the Canadian Council on Learning (CCL) which selects it as one of four effective learning practices to be celebrated within the category “Aboriginal Learning”.
