Launch of book authored by Mi'kmaw Elders and Prune Harris May 01, 2013
On 3 May 2013, the book entitled "Our Grandmothers' Words: Traditional Stories of Nurturing" (published by CBU Press) will be launched at the high school in Eskasoni First Nation. It is authored by Prune Harris, Elder Murdena Marshall, Elder Susie Marshall, Elder Flo Young, Elder Diana Denny, and Dr. Cheryl Bartlett. The book is in both Mi'kmaw and English and features traditional stories the Elders remember from when they were young and also that they told their own children. Karlee Johnson, a student at the school who has been much recognized for her gifted speaking abilities, will emcee the event. The book was made possible through a research award from the Atlantic Aboriginal Health Research Program (AAHRP) funded by CIHR (Canadian Institutes of Health Research) and by funding from the Canada Research Chair program of Cheryl Bartlett.
